Manchester United took the lead in the 16th minute when Joshua Zirkzee finished a well-executed counterattack.
Muharemović found himself having to move across the defensive line to try to cover for his teammates after Leeds were caught out, but he could not prevent Zirkzee from finding the net.
Despite the early setback, the 23-year-old defender remained composed and continued to show the qualities that have quickly made him a popular figure among Leeds supporters.
One of his best moments came when Manchester United created another dangerous opportunity through Bryan Mbeumo. The forward managed to get away from his marker and unleashed a shot, but Muharemović managed to get a slight touch on the ball, helping send it onto the crossbar.
It was an important defensive intervention that once again highlighted his ability to react quickly and put his body on the line.
Strong challenge wins over Leeds fans
Muharemović also produced one of the standout defensive moments of the first half with a superb challenge on Diogo Dalot.
The Bosnian defender timed his tackle perfectly and showed the aggression and determination that have already become noticeable characteristics of his game.
For a player still adapting to a new club and league, his willingness to compete for every ball and make decisive defensive interventions is an encouraging sign ahead of the new Premier League season.
Leeds eventually equalised before the break through Brendan Aaronson, who made it 1-1 and gave Farke’s side a deserved reward for their response.
First-half performance leaves positive impression
Although Muharemović was not on the pitch for the second half, his 45-minute performance provided another positive indication of his progress at Leeds.
The second half was played at a lower intensity, with both teams introducing numerous substitutes. Neither side managed to find a winning goal, sending the match to a penalty shootout.
Manchester United ultimately prevailed 5-4 from the spot. Muharemović did not take a penalty as he had already been substituted at half-time.
For the Bosnian international, however, the result was less important than another valuable 45 minutes against top-level opposition.
Muharemović’s Leeds debut is getting closer
Leeds still have one more friendly on their schedule, with Augsburg waiting in three days. Muharemović will then turn his attention to the Premier League, where his competitive debut for Leeds is expected to come on August 22 against Nottingham Forest.
Based on his performances during pre-season, the Bosnian defender is making a strong case for an important role in Farke’s plans.
Against Manchester United, Muharemović showed a combination of defensive awareness, physicality and commitment — exactly the qualities Leeds supporters will hope to see when the Premier League season begins.
